Empeddigo eBook A F Grappin Alex Leach

I had a blast reading this book. This is the author's debut novel. I was impressed with what they came out of the gate with and I can't wait to see what they can do in their next book. Let me tell you why I had a great time reading this book.

It had a lot of great characters. I enjoyed rooting for the protagonists and loved to hate the antagonist. The antagonist was done well too because even though they were totally evil they believed they were doing the right thing. I love seeing that instead of just a character who is evil for evils sake. It starts off in a mideaval village of sorts and we start to learn a bit about what life is like for one of the main characters. Then we're confronted with a mad man running up and down the streets followed by a flying beast terrorizing the villagers. It only gets better from there.

I love adventure stories and there are a ton of them in this novel. The cast was pretty large and as the story progresses it splits into two different story lines. In one story line we get to meet some cool outcasts of society. What are they out to do in the story? Find and kill a flying monster of course. I told you this story was cool. In the other story line we get to see how the royalty lives. A commoner travels to the castle to talk to the king about some injustices going on. There are many things the commoners don't know about happening behind those castle walls. You'll have to read the book to find out what it is.

The further you get into the story the more you learn that everything is not as it seems. That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to spoil anything but I will say that there are quite a few awesome reveals that caught me totally off guard as a reader. They caught me off guard in a good way. I like being surprised when a story goes a way I wasn't expecting. This story does that really well on many levels. We find out some big stuff about the characters and the world they live in and it all just makes you want to keep turning the pages to find out more. Thanks for stopping by!

Empeddigo eBook A F Grappin Alex Leach Reviews

I love fantasy novels that are brief and have something that sets them apart from others in the genre. The brevity and the twist in this story are thus very satisfying. It was short enough to read on a three hour plane ride, but I was completely satisfied that I got a "full" story. The twist, as most good twists should be, would not stand in the way of a re-read and that's admirable in its own right.

Grappin tells a good story, builds an interesting universe, and creates a number of characters I can identify with. I do have a couple of minor gripes with things that the characters do and a few of the minor plot points, but none of those things stood in the way of my enjoyment. I look forward to reading more by this author.
